1:1
1 mL compound + 1 mL solvent

Equal parts of two solutions. Common for simple dilutions and reconstitution.

1:2
1 mL compound + 2 mL solvent

One part compound to two parts solvent. Results in a 3-fold dilution.

1:3
1 mL compound + 3 mL solvent

One part compound to three parts solvent. Results in a 4-fold dilution.

1:10
0.1 mL compound + 0.9 mL solvent

One part compound to ten parts solvent. Common serial dilution starting point.

1:100
10 µL compound + 990 µL solvent

One part compound to one hundred parts solvent. Used for high dilution factors.

Dilution factor = total parts ÷ compound parts. For example, a 1:9 ratio means 10 total parts, giving a 10-fold dilution.
