PepTools

GLP-1 Protein and Water Calculator

Estimate an adult protein planning range and daily water reference values during prescribed GLP-1 therapy.

An adult planning guide, not a prescription

This tool is for adults age 18 and older using an FDA-approved GLP-1 medication under a licensed clinician's care. It gives a starting point to discuss with your prescriber or registered dietitian.

Your information

National water reference values are published using female and male categories. Pregnancy and breastfeeding have different values.

Enter a weight between 40 and 700 lb, or 18 and 318 kg.

Your planning guide

Daily protein planning range

98 to 114g

About 25 to 29 g across 4 eating occasions. This uses 1.2 to 1.4 g/kg as a planning range during active weight loss.

General adult RDA baseline from your current weight: about 65 g/day at 0.8 g/kg. Current-weight formulas can overestimate needs for some people, so a clinician may use adjusted weight or lean mass instead.

Daily beverage reference

74fl oz

About 9 cups or 2.2 liters from water and other beverages.

Total water reference: 91 fl oz or 2.7 liters, including water in food.

Important safety notes

Do not use these estimates without individualized guidance if you have kidney disease, are on dialysis, have heart or liver disease, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under age 18, or have been told to limit protein or fluids.

Water needs can rise with heat, sweating, fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. This calculator does not add a fixed amount for activity because losses vary. If you cannot keep fluids down, have very little urine, feel faint, or feel confused, seek medical care promptly.

Protein alone does not preserve muscle. The joint advisory also emphasizes resistance exercise and an overall nutrient-dense eating pattern. Contact your prescriber if GLP-1 side effects make it difficult to eat or drink enough.
